Features wise, it comes with all the same amenities as the previous model, although it changes or adds a few things, including a rear spoiler, steering wheel with paddle shifters (for automatic transmission-equipped models), and sport-style front seats. If you choose the version with a manual transmission, it adds a sunroof, and upgraded infotainment system.

Side-By-Side Comparisons - the Toyota Corolla vs. the Competition

While we know the Toyota Corolla is a perfect option for any number of types of driver, at Lowe Toyota of Warner Robins, we also know that the Corolla isn't your only new-car option for a small sedan. Several other well-known car companies manufacture models that are a similar size and capability.

Despite the competition though, we still think the Corolla has more to offer. But, don't take our word for it. Read on to discover for yourself how the Toyota Corolla comes out ahead of both the Honda Civic sedan, and the Ford Focus sedan. As you can see, the Corolla has a lot more going for it than those competing models, especially when it comes to standard features designed to keep you safe.

Toyota Corolla vs. Honda Civic

  • Standard safety features. Regardless of which trim level you choose, every Toyota Corolla in the lineup comes with a host of standard safety features that are among the most advanced and innovative technologies available. Every Corolla comes automatically with a lane departure warning, frontal collision warning, and automatic emergency braking, among others. Comparatively, the new Honda Civic doesn't come with these feature standard. Drivers can order it as an optional package, but, it's not something you can expect to come standard.
  • Space. The Toyota Corolla is a little more spacious for you and your passengers than the Honda Civic. In fact, three adults sitting side by side in the backseat of the new Toyota Corolla will enjoy more breathing room than three in the rear of a Civic, especially when it comes to backseat legroom.
  • Transmission. Most Toyota Corolla models come with an automatic transmission standard. However, Toyota understands that some drivers prefer to be in charge of their car's shifting with a manual transmission, and they make one available on the sport-tuned trim level, the Toyota Corolla SE, which also adds a rear spoiler and a sport-style gauge on the dashboard. The Honda Civic, meanwhile, comes standard with a manual transmission. If you want to avoid the manual and get the automatic, you either have to request it special as an option, or else move up trim levels and spend more money.

The Toyota Corolla vs. the Ford Focus

  • Fuel economy. You can go further on a tank of gas in a Toyota Corolla than you can in the Ford Focus, saving you money at the fuel pump and saving you time for refueling stops. For example, the entry-level Corolla averages a combined 32 mpg, while the entry-level Focus only averages a combined 28 mpg. Also, the Corolla fuel tank has a greater capacity, at 13.2 gallons, than the Focus, which has a capacity of only 12.4 gallons.
  • Backseat space. The passengers in the rear seat of the Toyota Corolla will thank you for the extra space provided. In fact, the Corolla offers your backseat passengers considerably more space than the Ford Focus does. The Corolla offers rear legroom that is greater than the Focus, by more than eight inches. Plus, the Corolla also gives the backseat passenger more elbow room and shoulder room as well.
  • Advanced safety features. While every single Toyota Corolla, starting right at the base level, comes standard with an incredible list of safety features, including forward collision mitigation and automatic high beam control, the Ford Focus lineup is missing these features. In fact, a similar suite of safety feature is available for the Ford Focus, but only on the top trim, Titanium, and only available as a special package.

The 2018 Toyota Corolla - Performance and Power

Despite the many different customization options for the 2018 Corolla, they are all equipped with the same engine power. Each one comes with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine puts 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque on most models, although the LE Eco, with its fuel economy-minded tuning, puts out 140 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque.

Passenger and Cargo Space on the 2018 Corolla

Despite its small size and tiny footprint, the Corolla doesn't feel cramped on the inside. This is a car that's designed with your and your passengers' comfort in mind. There's plenty of legroom, headroom, and elbow room. Plus, the seats are well-made and constructed of top materials that promise to retain their comfort.

The cargo space on the 2018 Corolla is also spacious. The trunk opening is wide, allowing for easier loading and unloading, and the cargo area holds more than it appears, especially when the car's rear seats are folded down to expand the trunk. In fact, the Corolla's trunk holds around 13 cubic feet of cargo, and the rear seats fold in a 60/40 split for a flexible and versatile storage area.

When it comes to toting around smaller items inside the car, we don't think you'll be disappointed in the Corolla. Not only is there a storage tray in the center of the car, near the shifter, there are also pockets for storage in the doors and a two-level bin in the center armrest.
